Understanding Results
PageSpeed Insights provides scores in four categories, each rated 0-100:
Core Web Vitals
PageSpeed Insights measures Google's Core Web Vitals, which are essential metrics for user experience:
LCP
Largest Contentful Paint
Measures loading performance. Should occur within 2.5s of page start.
FID
First Input Delay
Measures interactivity. Pages should have FID of 100ms or less.
CLS
Cumulative Layout Shift
Measures visual stability. Should maintain CLS of 0.1 or less.
Rate Limiting & API Key
Without an API key, PageSpeed Insights may return 429 rate limit errors after a few requests. To avoid this:
- 1.Get a free API key from Google Cloud Console
- 2.Navigate to Settings in Developer's Toolkit
- 3.Enter your PageSpeed Insights API Key
- 4.Save - You now have unlimited audits!
