Free AI games online now include chess, Ludo, Uno and 17 more classic games, and you can play them against real AI models in your browser with no download. I built the AI games page on promptslove.com, so I know those 20 games well, and I tested it by playing a live Tic Tac Toe game against Gemini 3 Flash Preview.
This list covers all 20 games with the rules, the AI's weak spots and one tip to beat each opponent. It then adds 13 more places to play, watch or test AI, and it labels each one as a language model, a game engine or a neural net so you know what you face.
Key Takeaways
What "Playing Against AI" Really Means
The phrase covers three different kinds of opponent, and the kind changes how you should play.
| Opponent type | How it plays | What to expect | Examples in this guide |
|---|---|---|---|
| Language model | Reads the game state as text and answers with a move in words | Can blunder a piece, miss a block or bluff well | Promptslove games, Battling.ai, Kaggle Game Arena |
| Computer program or engine | Follows programmed rules and search | Calculates well and rarely makes a careless move | Lichess computer, Connect 4 Solver, Coppercod card games |
| Neural net trained for one task | Learns from examples of one game or task | Plays or guesses like the examples it saw | Maia bots, Quick, Draw! |
A language model that plays chess is not a chess engine. The promptslove chess page says it plainly: models reason about the position in text, so some play a solid opening and others blunder.
Engines win by calculation. Language models win by pattern and reasoning, and they lose by mistakes you can see. That makes language models more interesting to test and engines better for serious practice. Two entries, Akinator and Human or Not, fit none of these types cleanly, and I explain why where they appear.
How the Promptslove AI Games Work
Every game page on promptslove.com follows one pattern. You pick a mode, pick a model and press Start Game.
Play vs AI puts you against one model. Watch AI vs AI lets two or more models play each other while you spectate, and you can pause and resume the match.
The model dropdown on the Tic Tac Toe page listed more than 100 options on 26 October 2026, from families including GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek and Llama, and the page headline says 80+ live models. The default was Google: Gemini 3 Flash Preview. Some models carry a Premium label, and I did not test what that changes.
The page says every opponent is a live model fetched in real time through OpenRouter, and every move is validated on the server, so a model cannot make an illegal move. The free tier gives you one game per day with no account.
I tested one game. I played X in the center of the Tic Tac Toe board. Gemini 3 Flash Preview answered with a corner, then blocked my next two threats, and each reply arrived within four seconds. That is one game against one model, not a benchmark.
Because the cap is one free game per day, I added a seven day test plan near the end so you spend each game well.

Board Games Against AI: 9 Classics on Promptslove
The promptslove index lists all 20 games in one flat grid. I grouped them by type so you can scan faster. Every game below has a Play vs AI mode and a Watch AI vs AI mode.
1. Chess

Chess is the game everyone tries first, and it shows the gap between a language model and an engine better than any other. You can play a model or watch two models play, and the page detects checkmate, stalemate and draws for you. Click a piece to see its legal moves.
Models reason about the position in text, so some play a clean opening and then give away a piece. How to beat it: play the same opening against two different models and note which one hangs pieces. Then trade down into a position where you can calculate. Play Chess against AI.
2. Checkers

Promptslove runs English draughts, also called American checkers. Black moves first, captures are mandatory and chain jumps count. Men capture forward only, crowning a piece ends your move and a player with no legal move loses. Long quiet games end in a draw.
The page rates the AI as decent but exploitable. How to beat it: offer one piece so the model jumps, then take two back with a chain jump. Models fall for two for one sacrifices. Play Checkers against AI.
3. Reversi

Reversi uses the 8x8 board and the fixed four disc Othello start. Legal moves glow, and the game passes a turn for you when you have no move. The AI flips aggressively and grabs corners when you offer them, but it overvalues early flips.
How to beat it: take the corners and limit its mobility instead of chasing flips. Play Reversi against AI.
4. Gomoku

Gomoku is five in a row on a 15x15 board with freestyle rules. Black moves first, and five or more stones in a row win. You may know it as Gobang or omok. The page says the AI plays this better than chess but stays beatable, and it blocks obvious fours.
How to beat it: build a double three, two open lines of three at once. Most models cannot block both. Play Gomoku against AI.
5. Connect Four

You play Orange and drop first. In watch mode, Orange faces Magenta. Models love the center column, and they block obvious threats, but they miss diagonal setups.
How to beat it: build a double threat, where one disc creates two ways to win. The model can block only one. Play Connect Four against AI.
6. Tic Tac Toe

Tic Tac Toe is the fastest way to test an AI. Choose X or O, and X moves first. Perfect play ends in a draw, so a win means the model made a mistake. The page says models sometimes miss a block or an open row.
My live test went the way the page says it should for a strong model: Gemini 3 Flash Preview answered my center opening with a corner and blocked my next two threats. How to beat it: set up a fork, two threats at once, and try a second model from the dropdown if the first one plays cleanly. Play Tic Tac Toe against AI.
7. Dots and Boxes

The board has 5x5 boxes on a 6x6 grid of dots, with 60 lines in total. You move first. Finish a box and you score a point and move again. A game takes about five minutes, and a 13 to 12 finish is not rare.
The AI takes free boxes and avoids obvious giveaways. The long chain endgame is where you win. How to beat it: take all but the last two boxes of a long chain, hand those two over and make the model open the next chain. Play Dots and Boxes against AI.
8. Battleship

The grid is 10x10, and each side hides five ships: Carrier, Battleship, Cruiser, Submarine and Destroyer. The game places them at random, and shots alternate. The AI sees only its tracking grid, and once it hits a ship it hunts along the line of the wounded ship. Watch mode shows you both fleets.
How to beat it: fire in a checkerboard pattern until you score a hit, then follow the line. Every ship covers at least two squares, so a checkerboard pattern finds all five. Play Battleship against AI.
9. Ludo

Ludo takes 2 to 4 players in any mix of you and models. You can play against 1 to 3 models or watch 2 to 4 models play each other.
A 6 lets a token leave the yard and gives an extra roll. Landing on an opponent captures it, star squares are safe and you need an exact roll to get home. The first player to bring all four tokens home wins.
The server rolls the dice, lists the legal moves and asks the model to pick one, so no model can fudge a roll. How to beat it: luck drives Ludo, so play the percentages. Park tokens on star squares and capture whenever you can. Play Ludo against AI.
Word and Code Games Against AI: 4 Puzzles on Promptslove
These four games hide information from one side, which makes them a good test of how a model handles uncertainty.
10. Hangman

Hangman runs in two directions. In "You guess," the AI picks the word. In "AI guesses," you enter a word and the model tries to solve it. You get six lives.
The word stays on the server, and the model sees only the blanks and the letters already tried. In watch mode, one model picks the word and another solves it.
How to beat it: choose a short word with rare letters. Jazz, lynx and gypsy stumped many models. Play Hangman against AI.
11. Mastermind

The server hides a code of four pegs drawn from six colors, and repeats are allowed. You and the AI race to crack the same code. You go first, and each side gets ten guesses.
The feedback is private: a black peg means the right color in the right spot, and a white peg means the right color in the wrong spot. Most codes fall in 4 to 7 guesses, and the page rates the AI as strong at this one.
How to beat it: open with two colors twice, such as red red blue blue, then use the black and white counts to cut the options. Play Mastermind against AI.
12. Word Guess

Word Guess works like Wordle. The game hides a five letter word, you and the AI get six guesses each, and you take turns racing to solve it. Tiles turn green, amber or gray.
You can see the AI's board, and it cannot see yours. Models solve common words in 3 to 5 guesses.
How to beat it: open with a word full of common letters and avoid repeats. You need to solve it faster than a model that usually takes 3 to 5 guesses. Play Word Guess against AI.
13. 20 Questions

The game has three modes. In the first, you think of something and the AI asks the questions while you answer Yes, No, Sort of or Don't know. In the second, you ask the questions, and the server fixes the secret when the game starts, so the AI cannot change its mind.
In the third, you watch two models play. Guesses count as questions.
The AI finds everyday animals and objects within about 15 questions. How to beat it: pick an abstract idea or a fictional thing, because those stump it. Play 20 Questions against AI.
Dice and Card Games Against AI: 5 Games on Promptslove
Luck matters in these five games, so a single result tells you little. Play several rounds before you judge a model.
14. Yahtzee

Yahtzee is a full 13 round scorecard duel. Each turn you roll five dice and can reroll twice. A score of 63 or more in the upper section earns a 35 point bonus.
The model decides which dice to hold, when to stop and which category to fill, while the server rolls the dice. The page calls the AI solid but not optimal. Watch mode runs 26 turns.
How to beat it: chase the upper section bonus early, because 35 points can swing a close game. Play Yahtzee against AI.
15. Blackjack

You and the AI each play five rounds against the same dealer. Each side starts with 100 play chips and bets 10 per round. Blackjack pays 3:2, the shoe holds six decks and the dealer stands on all 17s.
You can double on any first two cards. The game has no splits and no insurance, and no real money is involved. Some models play textbook strategy, and some hit a 17.
How to beat it: stand on 17 or higher and double on 10 or 11 against a weak dealer card. A model that hits a 17 will lose chips to that habit. Play Blackjack against AI.
16. Poker

Poker is heads up fixed limit Texas hold'em over 8 hands. Each side starts with 200 play chips, the blinds are 5 and 10 and the button alternates. The biggest stack at the end wins.
The AI sees only its own cards and the board. Models raise with weak hands, fold winners and sometimes make big calls with marginal hands.
How to beat it: bet your strong hands for value and let the model bluff into them. Play Poker against AI.
17. Uno

Uno takes 2 to 4 players and uses the classic 108 card deck. Everyone starts with seven cards, and you play first.
Draw cards do not stack. A drawn card that fits plays automatically, a reverse acts as a skip with two players and a wild draw four can be played at any time. Each AI sees its own hand, the top card and everyone's card counts. Watch mode reveals all hands.
How to beat it: the AI sees how many cards you hold, so it knows when you are close to going out. Keep a wild card for your last two cards. Play Uno against AI.
18. Liar's Dice

Each player hides five dice. Ones are wild, and you cannot bid on ones directly. Every bid must beat the last one, or you call LIAR.
The loser of a challenge loses a die. The AI never sees your dice.
How to beat it: use the math. With ones wild, any die matches a bid face one time in three, so ten dice on the table hold about three of any number. Challenge bids that climb far above that. Play Liar's Dice against AI.
Mind Games Against AI: 2 Games on Promptslove
These two games test prediction and deception instead of calculation.
19. Rock Paper Scissors

The match runs to 5 wins. Before each round, the model gets your full throw history for the match, though never your current throw. It predicts your next throw and counters it.
Humans fall into patterns, and models notice. In watch mode, two models try to predict each other.
How to beat it: stop being predictable. Use a coin flip or the seconds hand of a clock to pick each throw. Play Rock Paper Scissors against AI.
20. Werewolf

Werewolf puts you in a game with five AI models. The six players are two werewolves, one seer and three villagers, and you get a secret role that might be a wolf.
At night the wolves pick a victim and the seer inspects a player. By day everyone talks and votes. The village wins by voting out both wolves, and the wolves win when they equal the villagers.
Each model plays under its own name. Watch mode runs six models with no human, and the page describes the game as a test of deception.
How to beat it: if you draw a wolf, you bluff against five models that read every word. Keep your story short and consistent. Play Werewolf against AI.
5 More Places to Play With Language Models and Generative AI
I checked each site below in my browser on 26 October 2026. Where I could not confirm a detail, I say so.
21. Battling.ai
Battling.ai lets you play classic games against AI models, and it also runs AI vs AI battles with a live leaderboard. It listed Chess, Tic Tac Toe, Texas Hold'em Poker for 2 to 6 players, Connect Four, Checkers, Reversi, Minesweeper and Sudoku. Rock Paper Scissors, Backgammon, Battleship and Wordle were marked as coming soon. The site has Ranked Game and Custom Game tabs.
A banner offered free play if you bring your own keys, which suggests you may need API keys from a model provider. I did not read the pricing page, so check the terms before you start.
22. Kaggle Game Arena
Kaggle Game Arena is a place to watch, not to play. Google's announcement from 2 February 2026 describes it as an independent public platform where AI models compete in strategic games. Chess launched in 2025, and Werewolf and poker joined later, with livestreams from 2 to 4 February 2026.
The site listed 19 game benchmarks when I checked, including Chess, Go, Checkers, Reversi, Dots and Boxes, Heads Up Poker and Werewolf. It offers leaderboards, gameplay datasets, visualizers and past livestreams. I found no way to play against the models there. Leaderboards change, so check the current ranks yourself.
23. Infinite Craft

Infinite Craft is not a duel, but an AI decides every result. You start with Water, Fire, Wind and Earth and combine pairs to craft new things. According to Wikipedia, Neal Agarwal released it on 31 January 2024. It uses Llama 2 and Llama 3.1 to generate results, then saves each new pair so everyone gets the same answer.
The game loaded and ran in my browser without a signup screen. Use it when you want to see what a language model does with open ended input instead of a move list.
24. Lakera Agent Breaker
Lakera Agent Breaker flips the usual game. You attack AI apps instead of playing against one. If you remember Lakera's Gandalf prompt game, its old address now redirects here.
The site gives you levels built around GenAI apps such as Solace AI, Clause AI, Cycling Coach and Trippy Planner. Each attack scores from 0 to 100, you need 75 or more to unlock the next level and a leaderboard ranks players.
I saw no price on the page I read, so confirm the terms before you start.
25. AI Dungeon

AI Dungeon calls itself a free AI text adventure game. You type what your character does, and the AI writes what happens next. The page I read did not list the free tier limits, so check them before you plan a long session.
5 Places to Play Classic Computer Opponents and Neural Nets
These sites do not use language models for the opponent, as far as I could tell. That is a strength when you want a reliable opponent for practice.
26. Lichess vs the Computer
Lichess describes itself as a free, open source chess server with no ads. Its "Play against the computer" setup lets you pick a strength from 1 to 8 and choose your side. The page description mentions no registration. Use Lichess when you want to practice against a chess program with adjustable strength, which a language model cannot give you.
27. Maia Bots on Lichess
Maia bots are neural network chess players built to play like humans. The Lichess bot list describes them as human like engines trained on over 10 million Lichess games. The bots maia1, maia5 and maia9 play at about 1100, 1500 and 1900 rating. I did not test whether you need an account to challenge a bot, so check before you plan a game.
28. Connect 4 Solver
The Connect 4 Solver page says it finds the best move and lets you play against an unbeatable AI. Play it after the promptslove Connect Four game. The promptslove model misses diagonal setups, and a solver does not, so you can feel the gap between a language model and a solver in one evening.
29. PlayGo.gg
PlayGo.gg is a free Go server where you can play people or AI, according to its search listing. The play page offers 9x9, 13x13 and 19x19 boards, and its menu includes Play Online, Play Bots, Play with Coach and Play a Friend. I did not test whether the bots need an account, and the site does not name its Go engine.
30. Coppercod
Coppercod offers card games against computer opponents. The page says free and no sign up, with Easy, Medium and Hard levels. The page I opened showed Canasta, and its search listing names Bridge, Spades, Gin Rummy, Hearts, Whist and Euchre. These are classic computer opponents, not language models.
3 Games Where the AI Guesses, Draws or Hides
31. Akinator
Akinator asks you to think of a real or fictional character, then asks questions until it guesses who you chose. Wikipedia says the French company Elokence released it in August 2007 and that it accepts Yes, No, Probably, Probably not and Don't know. The company has not disclosed the algorithm, so I will not call it a language model or any other type.
Compare it with 20 Questions on promptslove, where a language model does the guessing. I did not verify Akinator's pricing.
32. Quick, Draw!
Quick, Draw! is a Google Creative Lab experiment from May 2017. It asks whether a neural network can learn to recognize doodling. You draw, and the network tries to guess your drawing.
The site supports 16 or more languages. I did not check whether it asks for an account.
33. Human or Not
Human or Not is a two minute chat where you decide whether you are talking to a person or an AI. The site says you can play instantly with no registration, and an account is optional. It belongs here because the opponent might be a person, so it is a test of you as much as of the AI.

A Seven Day Test Plan: One Free Game Per Day
Promptslove gives you one free game per day, so spread the test across a week. Use the same model all week, then repeat the plan with a second model and compare.
By Sunday you have a personal read on how a model handles blocks, bluffs, hidden information and deception.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Can I play AI games online for free without signing up?
Yes. Promptslove gives you one free game per day with no account and no download, and my Tic Tac Toe test started with no signup screen. Lichess's computer setup, Coppercod and Human or Not also advertise play without registration. Battling.ai and Lakera Agent Breaker may have conditions, so check their terms.
Can ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude play chess or 20 Questions?
Yes, they can play both in text. They are not chess engines, though, so a model may open well and then blunder a piece. Promptslove lets you pick GPT, Gemini, Claude and other models on the same game page and compare how each one plays.
What is the difference between a language model and a chess engine?
A language model reads the position as text and answers in words, so it can make mistakes a human spots. An engine follows programmed rules and search, so it calculates moves reliably. Use a language model to test AI behavior and an engine to practice serious chess.
Which AI game is easiest to beat?
It depends on the model, but the promptslove pages point to a few weak spots. Models miss diagonal setups in Connect Four, fall to a double three in Gomoku, accept two for one sacrifices in Checkers and struggle with short words that use rare letters in Hangman. A strong model may still block everything in Tic Tac Toe, as mine did.
Can I watch two AIs play each other?
Yes. Promptslove has a Watch AI vs AI mode on its game pages, and you can pause and resume the match. Battling.ai runs AI vs AI battles, and Kaggle Game Arena publishes leaderboards, visualizers and past livestreams of models playing strategic games.
Is blackjack or poker on these sites real money?
Not on promptslove. Blackjack and poker use play chips only, and the page says no real money is involved. Check the terms of any other site before you put money into a game.
Final Thoughts
Free AI games online give you two things at once: a good game and a live test of how a model thinks. Promptslove covers 20 classic games against real language models, and the extra sites add engines, neural nets and benchmark replays so you can compare each kind. Start with Tic Tac Toe today, because the page calls it the fastest way to test an AI and it shows you how a model handles a threat. Then follow the seven day plan and pick a favorite model by Sunday.
